Through the summer and fall of 2016, the APA has been busy behind the scenes lobbying the media to use appropriate terms such as ‘Paramedics’ to replace ‘ambulance attendants’ and only reference Paramedics or EMS when it is appropriate to the story being published.
One of the most recent examples was when a mainstream media outlet used an ambulance stock photo within a headline that indicated unethical practice by a practitioner who was not working in our profession. The media was contacted within 4 minutes of online publication and APA was successful in lobbying the reporter to change the ambulance picture out for a generic healthcare photo not referencing paramedicine.
This is just one of the ways the Alberta Paramedic Association advocates for the profession.
