The Regional Emergency Services (RES) Department is a progressive and fully integrated Fire/EMS service within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), proudly serving one of Canada’s most unique and diverse regions. As a department, we deliver high-quality emergency response, such as fire suppression, advanced life support including helicopter medical and rescue services across Fort McMurray and surrounding communities.
At the RMWB, we are more than just a municipality—we are a team of dedicated public servants who believe in service excellence, safety, inclusivity, and innovation. Our Emergency Services personnel are trained to the highest standards, with access to modern equipment, continuous professional development, and specialized training opportunities that foster long-term career growth.
We are committed to building a supportive, respectful, and team-oriented environment where every member feels valued and empowered. Whether responding to complex emergencies or engaging in community outreach, our Firefighter Paramedics play a vital role in protecting lives and building strong connections with the public we serve.
We are honoured to serve the residents of this region, which includes the urban service area in Fort McMurray, 9 rural communities, and 12 Indigenous communities located on Treaty 8 Territory—the traditional lands of the Cree, Dene, and the unceded territory of the Métis.
