Team Lead Advanced Care Paramedic (clinic Setting)

Calian is currently seeking an experienced Paramedic Team Lead, leading on-site medical professionals who specializes in emergency and addictions treatments for detainees in custody. The Paramedic Team Lead manages both the responsibilities of daily operations as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) as well as clinical leadership responsibilities to the ACPs on their team. Employed by Calian, our Paramedic Team lead will work at our client site, Edmonton Police Service (EPS). The ultimate common goal is to promote and increase public safety. The Paramedic Team Lead will manage all daily clinical operations at the Detainee Management Unit (DMU) including scheduling, inventory, new-hire orientation, monitor adherence and contribute to the creation of policies/procedures, coordinate team refresher training, auditing intake forms/paperwork, and generating monthly reports for EPS. As the first point of contact, the Paramedic Team Lead will act as the Calian representative for clinical matters at the Edmonton site, escalating issues to the Contract Manager as appropriate.

 

Responsibilities

•Attend 12-hour shifts, maintaining a full-time schedule of two days and two nights
•Work autonomously as the lead Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) on site
•Manage and publish schedules according to staff availability
•Act as main point of contact for sick calls or time off requests. Acquire last-minute shift coverage as needed
•Main point of contact relating to clinical matters and liaise with the client on site.
•Report any issues or concerns and defer contractual matters immediately to the Contract Manager
•Maintain adequate stock of inventory at EPS, order and pick up medications and supplies
•Contribute to the creation and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols
•Submit Scope of Practice expansion requests to Contract Manager and Medical Director
•Research and present cost-benefit analysis of new equipment to Contract Manager
•Complete onboarding process for newly hired staff, coordinating with Contract Manager and EPS administration
•Train new hires on daily operations, re-orient casual staff who have not worked for x6+ months
•Coordinate quarterly ACP training sessions with Contract Manager
•Audit Detainee Assessment Initial Intake Forms and all other Assessment Forms; and provide professional feedback
•Oversee and implement EPS Safety Committee recommendations; Consult with Contract Manager prior to implementation.
•Collect and record monthly statistics and report findings to Contract Manager
•Attend meetings with Social/Medical, Mental Health, Addictions Referral Team and EPS as requested
•Report to Contract Manager for any questions, concerns, or incidents

Qualifications

•Alberta College of Paramedics registration/license in good standing
•ACLS certification
•Pass Enhanced Security Clearance with Edmonton Police Service (EPS)
•Minimum 5 years experience as Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP)
•Proven history of leadership is required
•Adequate computer and technical skills to support the administrative duties is required
•Experience caring for patients with substance abuse, mental health and addictions
